The most popular form of internet connection in the modern-day era is Wi-Fi. This is a wireless internet solution that can connect to almost every device that can withhold an internet connection. However, Wi-Fi is not always the fastest method of connection due to environmental factors such as wall partitions, the distance between the router and the device you are using to access the internet with.

CAT5, CAT6 and CT7 cables are all examples of Ethernet cables. An Ethernet cable is a type of wired connection that runs directly from the router to your device(s). So, what is the difference between ‘CAT5, CAT6 and CAT7’ cables?

“Cat” is short for “Category”. The three categories of cable are capable of providing much higher connection speeds than one another.

Cat 5 – This category of Ethernet cable has a transmission speed of 10/00 Mbps (Megabytes per second)

Cat 6 – This category of Ethernet cable has a transmission speed of 1000 Mbps / 1Gbps (Gigabytes per second)

Cat 7 – This category of Ethernet cable has a transmission speed of 10,000 Mbps.
